PHOEBE R. BARNETTE

NEW BERN -- Phoebe Rowe Barnette, 95, died Sunday.
She was a member of the Rock of Zion Free Will Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved cooking for family and friends and was known for her scrumptious sweet potato pies and seven-layer chocolate cakes. She also enjoyed working in the yard and gardening.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pollock-Best Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
She is survived by two sons, Jack Russell Barnette of New Bern and Roy Franklin Barnette of Vanceboro; two daughters, Clara Grady of Goldsboro and Brenda Van Winkle of New Bern; one sister, Trixie Potter of Alliance; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sudan Shriner's Crippled Children's Fund.
