FLORENCE PARKER WELLS

WARSAW -- Florence "Shirley" P. Wells, 86, beloved wife of the Rev. Alan B. Wells, went on to be with the Lord on June 11, 2007, at her home. She was born in Lynchburg, Va., on November 19, 1920.
Shirley was a member of Warsaw Presbyterian Church in Warsaw, N.C. To her family, she was lovingly known as "Gammie" and she was devoted to her family and cherished visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting and other handcrafts, and her family and friends treasured her gifts of beautiful craftsmanship. Her steadfast faith in God and His Word were evident in her fervent prayer life and demonstrated in her role as a loving and dedicated pastor's wife. She was a graduate of Mitchell Junior Women's College and also a 1946 graduate of Columbia Bible College, Columbia, S.C., where she met her husband. Having worked as an educator in the public school systems in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia for many years, Mrs. Wells' love of children was so very evident in her life.
She was the last living survivor of the late Rev. and Mrs. J. Kenton Parker Sr. Her father was a former pastor of Centre Presbyterian Church of Mount Mourne, N.C. She was also preceded in death by her siblings and her eldest daughter, Elizabeth "Libbi" Carter of Lilburn, Ga.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, the Rev. Alan B. Wells of the home. They were blessed with a loving family, the late Elizabeth "Libbi" Carter, Ken and Rose Carter of Georgia, Ruth W. Warren and husband, Richard, of Georgia, Eddie Wells and wife, Lorraine, of Kansas, Kent Wells and wife, Sue, of Warsaw and Tim Wells and wife, Leslie, of Alabama. They have 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating her Christian walk and God's blessings in this life will be held in the Warsaw Presbyterian Church, Warsaw, N.C., on Friday, June 15, 2007, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Ben Burrows. The family will receive friends and loved ones following the service. Interment will be held in a private family ceremony at Centre Presbyterian Church, Mount Mourne, N.C.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Carolina East Home Care and Hospice Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 887, Kenansville, N.C. 28349, who provided hospice care for her at home.
