KARINNE K. YOUNG
Died June 7, 2007
Karinne K. Young died of an extended illness Friday. Born in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Michael and Martha Krus.
Throughout her life, she was ever grateful for the many gifts and blessings of the Lord, especially family and friends.
A celebration of her "Homecoming" will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Hank Teague officiating.
Karinne was educated in Chicago area schools. She worked in a variety of jobs, including as a flight attendant for United Airlines. In 1966, she married and moved to Syracuse, N.Y. There she became a volunteer and foster parent for the central New York Humane Association. In the early 1970s, she was elected president of the central New York region of the Sports Car Club where she and her husband competed in time trials, rallies and ice races. In 1976, Karinne became a volunteer for WCNG-TV, the public broadcasting station. She was then hired to train volunteers for the station's annual fundraising auction. Two years later, she joined WSYR-TV as promotion director and helped create a daily children's show.
In 1988, Karinne and her daughter moved to Goldsboro to be near family. She went to work for the Goldsboro News-Argus in 1988 as a reporter. Over the years she covered many beats including Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Goldsboro City government, agriculture and the weather.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Summer and Wade Teague of Rosewood; a sister, Connie Hawkinson of Goldsboro; and her much-beloved grandsons, Luke Teague and Will Teague, who loved their "K.K." and learned the thrills of "cheese-fishing" from her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children's Miracle Network, 4525 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84117 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
The family will greet friends Monday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.
