ROSA M. YELVERTON
July 16, 1912-May 28, 2007
BRONX, N.Y. -- Rosa Mae Yelverton of 1934 Edenwald Ave., formerly of 404 S. Sycamore St., Fremont, N.C., the daughter of the late John Gray Reid and Emma Artis Dawson Reid, born July 16, 1912, departed this life on May 28, 2007 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, N.Y. She was one of 11 children, of which 10 preceded her in death. Rosa received her education in Wayne County, N.C. In her early life she joined Hooks Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Pikeville, N.C., was a faithful member and served a portion of her life in the senior choir.
Rosa met and married Isaac L. Yelverton, who preceded her in death. To this union five children were born. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and visiting the sick. In the later years of her life she worked as a home health assistant until her early 80's. She was a member of the Eureka Chapter No. 480, PHA, Jurisdiction of North Carolina of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years. She was a loving caring mother, dedicated to her children and grandchildren. The name "Sweet Mommy" was given to her as her health deteriorated.
Funeral service will be Saturday, June 2 at 2 p.m. at Hooks Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Pikeville with the Rev. J.C. Sherrod officiating. Burial will follow in Turner Swamp Church Cemetery, Eureka. Visitation will be Friday, June 1 from 1 to 7 p.m. with the family present to receive family and friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, Goldsboro.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Rosa Sherrod and Bernice Yelverton of Bronx, N.Y., Isaac R. Yelverton of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Mildred Yelverton Willis of Fremont, N.C., and John R. Yelverton of High Point, N.C.; one son-in-law, Herbert D. Sherrod of Stantonsburg, N.C.; one daughter-in-law, Mae Yelverton, of High Point, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Newsome Yelverton of Goldsboro, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, Tekelah Sherrod of New Jersey; Herbert D. Sherrod of New York City; Belinda Sherrod Ward of Bronx, N.Y.. Seadrick A. Yelverton of Yonkers, N.Y., Jermaine Love of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Robin E. Yelverton of Brooklyn, N.Y., Cory Craig of Queens, N.Y., Theodore Anthony Willis, Rosemary Battle of Fremont, N.C., Carla McFadden of Snow Hill, N. C., Sharon Coley of Goldsboro, N.C., Natasha Nelson of High Point, N.C.; 13 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
