JOHN W. "BILL" LANE

March 24, 1919-April 27, 2007

John William "Bill" Lane, 88, of West Station Street, died Friday afternoon.

Born in Mount Olive, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a mechanic, having been employed at the former Hatcher-Smith Chevrolet before he and his brother established Lane Bros. Garage, which they operated for 50 years before their retirement. He was a longtime member of the Mount Olive Presbyterian Church, where he had served as deacon since Jan. 6, 1957, was a member of the church session, and had been a member of the church choir for more than 50 years.

He is survived by wife of 65 years, Evelyn Mozingo Lane; two sisters-in-law, Grace Lane of Mount Olive and Mabel Mozingo of Grantham; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The Lane family also acknowledges three special caregivers, Garnell Brogden, Frances Jernigan and Edith Sasser.

He was preceded in death by his only brother, Dempsey Lane, and their parents, Joseph Leonard Lane and Lila Anderson Lane.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. on Monday from the Mount Olive Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Steven Wicks officiating. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. today at Tyndall Funeral Home.
