Services for Mr. Ellie Lofton, 1013 E. Mulberry St., will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Best Grove M.B. Church, with the Rev. Joe A. Jackson officiating.
Interment will be at the Evergreen Memorial Ceme-tery, Hwy. 70 W., Princeton.
He was born in Goldsboro to the late Lula Hall and David Lofton. He peacefully departed his world on Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. His brothers, Johnnie, Levi Bill, Roosevelt and Lindell Lofton, all predeceased him.
Ellie grew up in Goldsboro, where he attended Wayne County Schools. At an early age, he moved to New York, where he worked as a fireman for the New York Board of Education until his retirement. His first marriage was to Pearl Shelton, who preceded him in death. He later married Almena Burgess Powell. No children were born of either union.
After retiring in New York, Ellie moved to Florida, where he lived for six years, afterwards returning here to make Goldsboro his home. Occasionally he visited Best Grove M.B. Church, where his wife was a member.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Almena Lofton, of the home; two brothers, Ernest "Mutt" Lofton of Goldsboro, David Lofton Jr. of Mineral, Va.; sisters-in-law, Elma Lofton and Thelma Lofton of Goldsboro, Patience Lofton of Mineral, Va., Christine Lofton of Washington, D.C., Anna Lofon of New York and Elouise Lofton of Washington D.C.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; four stepsons, Jimmy Simmons of Queens, N.Y., Jeffrey and Wayne Powell, both of Orlando Fla., Ronald Powell of Alexandria Va.; stepdaughters, Jackie Simmons, Renee Powell and Treava Powell, all of Florida; as well as other cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held this evening from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Lightner Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the family present to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. At other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home.
