NELLIE P. NEWSOME

FAISON -- Nellie Parker Newsome, 93, died Thursday. Born in Duplin County, she was the daughter of the late James Monroe and Mary Ella Sullivan Parker, and was the last survivor of their children. A long-time resident of the Faison community, she was a retired homemaker and in past years, she had been a department store clerk and had been employed by Southern Produce Distributors in Faison. She was a member of the Faison United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward B. Newsome; son, Douglas Newsome; and a granddaughter, Melissa Newsome DuPuis.
Survivors include a son and two daughters-in-law, Durwin and Joyce Newsome of Pikeville, and Betty Newsome of Roanoke Rapids; grandsons, Kelvin Newsome and wife, Donna, and Rodney Newsome, all of Roanoke Rapids, and Durwin Anthony Newsome and wife, Tammy of Kenly; four great-grandchildren, Jessica, Dustin, Abigail, and Jacob Newsome; and special friends of the family, Jared and Jennifer DuPuis of Pikeville.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. The burial will then follow in the Faison Cemetery.
