RUTH J. CARVER

Aug. 14, 1916-March 3, 2007

DURHAM -- Ruth Jackson Carver, 4622 Roxboro Road, passed away peacefully at her home on March 3, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Carver, of Rougemont, N.C.; and three brothers, Clarence, Harry, and James Jackson.

She was born in Rocky Mount, N.C., on August 14, 1916, the daughter of the late William and Mary Dickens Jackson.

Mrs. Carver was raised in Goldsboro, N.C., and moved to Durham after graduating from high school and went to work at a local tobacco company. She married Willie Carver in the mid-1940s and lived the rest of her life happily on North Roxboro Road.

She was a kind and generous woman who supported numerous charities in the Durham area, including the Triangle Hospice, Triangle Opera, Durham Mission and Duke University. She was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and placed fresh flower arrangements, often from her prized rose garden, in the Sanctuary every Sunday for many years.

Mrs. Carver is survived by a daughter, Diane C. Wilson, of Durham; two devoted grandsons, William Wilson and his wife Cindy, and Dennis Wilson and his wife Erin,of Durham; three great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Jacob and Hunter Wilson of Durham; a niece, Ann J. Shields and her husband, Steve, of Durham; two nephews, James Jimmy Jackson and his wife Lib, of Goldsboro, and Harry C. Jack Jackson and his wife, Linda, of Orlando, Fla.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Howerton Bryan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Annex B.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday night, at Howerton Bryan Funeral Home, 1005 W. Main St., in downtown Durham.

Flowers are acceptable, or memorials may be made to Triangle Hospice, 1001 Corporate Dr., Hillsborough, N.C. 27278.
