MILDRED NEWMAN

MOREHEAD CITY -- Mildred Newman, formerly of Knoxville, Tenn., died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and was a graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, the University of Cincinnati. Ms. Newman taught music for 50 years and played the organ or piano at churches in Knoxville, Tenn., Jackson, Miss., Fontana, Sanford, Morehead City and Goldsboro. For the last three years, she has been a resident of Sterling House, Goldsboro.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Royal officiating, followed by a visitation with the family. Burial will be at Lynnhurst Cemetery, Knoxville, Tenn.

She is survived by three daughters, Emily Weil of Goldsboro, Polly Stamps of Whortonsville, N.C., and Honolulu, Hawaii, and Wanda Newman of Columbus, Ohio; sons-in-law, David Weil and Bob Stamps; grandchildren, Steve, Henry, Leslie Weil, Sharon Herbst, Kristen Grimsley, Melissa Holt and Rick Butcher; and great-grandchildren, Andrea and Ryan Herbst, Tommy and David Holt, Jay and Neal Butcher and Sidney and Matt Grimsley.

Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Luther Minton; and sisters, Hattie Hooper and Mary Ellen Richards.

Donations in her memory should be made to the charity of one's choice.
