KINSTON -- Phil Howell Sr., 81, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2007.
Mr. Howell was born in Lenoir Coun-ty on August 1, 1925 to the late Wade Hamilton Howell and Nora Smith Howell. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in WWII. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A member of Sandy Bottom Baptist Church, he enjoyed his life as a farmer and took pleasure in spending time with his family and his neighbors. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Lou Hill Howell who passed away on February 12, 2002, also at the age of 81.
Survivors include his daughter, Teresa Davis and husband, Mike, of Kinston; sons, Timothy Hill and wife, Judith, of Kinston and Phil Howell Jr. and wife, Vickie, of Mount Olive; grandchildren, T. J. Hill and wife, Amanda, Kelly Smith, Michael, Caleb and Andrew Davis, all of Kinston, and Jessica and Phil Howell, III of Mount Olive; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Rozlyn Hill, and Tyler Dawson; and brother, Marvin Howell and wife, Claire, of Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007, in the chapel of Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Ruffin Hill and Tom Jones officiating. Visitation will follow the service. Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sandy Bottom Baptist Church, in memory of Phil and Bertha Howell, 4568 Hwy 55W, Kinston, NC 28504.
