GREENSBORO -- Lillian Swinson Edwards, 92, 117 Brook Pine Drive, died Tuesday at Carolina Commons Nursing Facility, Greensboro.
She was a native of Greene County, member of White Oak Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a former foster grandparent in the WAGES Senior Companion Program at Cherry Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Willie Ann Swinson Sr.; her husband, Benjamin Edwards Sr.; five children, Joe James, Kenneth, Odell, Jay Wesley and Selma Marie Edwards.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at White Oak Grove Original FWB Church, Pikeville, with the Rev. George Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in the Swinson Cemetery.
She is survived by three sons, Dottie Lee Thomas Edwards of Goldsboro, Benjamin Edwards Jr. of Goldsboro, Elder Edmond Earl Edwards of Goldsboro; two daughters, Geraldine E. Pounds of Washington, D.C., Doris E. Smith of Greensboro; two brothers, David and Robert Swinson, both of Goldsboro; three sisters, Minnie Bell Ruffin of Washington, D.C., Delacy Thompson of Philadelphia, Pa., Evangelist Lula Ellen Petty of Newark, N.J.; 10 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be Friday at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro from 2 to 6 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.
