MATTHEWS -- Rachel Sasser Martin, 81, died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital. She was raised in Wayne County as one of ten children born to William Albert and Viola Hood Sasser.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Harrell of Matthews, and Christy McCarley of Cullowhee; son, Darren Martin and wife, Carol, of Waxhaw; four sisters, Catherine Sykes and Margaret Powell, both of Goldsboro; Joyce Craft of Pikeville, and Alice Hartley of Princeton; two brothers, David Sasser of Fremont and Charlie Sasser of Woodstock, Ga.; four grandchildren, one great- granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at McEwen Funeral Service Mint Hill Chapel in Charlotte, officiated by the Rev. Verlin Anderson. Burial will be private at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Life Church, 3330 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, 28105.
Arrangements are in the care of McEwen Funeral Service Mint Hill Chapel.
