WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Funeral services for Athenee Ellen Speaks, 78, will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2007 in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiating will be Father Bob Sayer. Interment will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park.
Mrs. Speaks passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2007. Born in Doeville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James F. Blevins. Formerly of Goldsboro, she has been an area resident for the past six years. She retired from nursing, last working as office nurse for Dr. Garcia of Goldsboro. She enjoyed researching the Speaks' family genealogy and traveling. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 58 years, Gaither Speaks Sr.; daughters, Maria and Jackie Speaks; son and daughter-in-law, Gaither Speaks Jr. and his wife, Judy; sister, Negatha Saia, all of Lexington; four grandchildren, Spencer Daniel O'Brien, Andrew Stephen O'Brien, Christopher Speaks, and Amanda Speaks; four great-grandchildren, Anna O'Brien, Justin Ori, Crispen O'Brien, and Cody Loos. Mrs. Speaks was preceded in death by a sister, Murriel Ocuto.
