HARRY D. WEST

Harry Drexal West, 88, passed away peacefully at Wayne Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 08, 2007. He had been in declining health for several weeks.
Mr. West was born to the late Walter B. West and Olivia Yelverton on February 26, 1918. A native of Wayne County, Mr. West was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U. S. Army and receiving the Bronze Star for Meritorious Conduct in Action on September 16, 1944. He was employed with Dewey Brothers until his retirement. He was an active member of Victory Free Will Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel at 7 p.m. after which the family will receive friends. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park on Thursday at 11 a.m. Pallbearers are Jimmie Edmundson, Clifford Earl Weeks, Jr., Ricky Weeks, Steve Weeks, Frank Weeks, and Jim Weeks. Flowers are accepted or contributions may be made to Victory Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. West is his wife of 65 years, Joyce Smith West. He is also survived by two sisters, Margie West Parks of Goldsboro and Julia West Owens of Kinston, and three brothers, Ben West and wife, Edna, Howard West and wife, Betty, and Carey West and wife, Hilda, all of Goldsboro. He was preceded in death by three other brothers, William Grant West, Simirel T. West, and Walter W. West. Also surviving Mr. West is a sister-in-law, Beatrice West, of Goldsboro.
Although never blessed with children of his own, Mr. West enjoyed the love of many family members and friends. Several of those who helped fill this void include: Jimmie Edmundson, nephew; Faye Westbrook, niece; Louise Owens, niece; Ricky Weeks, a special friend of the family; and several other nieces and nephews.
