INEZ O. GURGANUS

SNOW HILL -- Inez Oakes Gurganus, 84, died Monday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. She had resided at Spring Arbor of Raleigh for the last several years. A native of Greene County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Courts and Effie Stocks Oakes. Mrs. Gurganus resided in Greene County most of her life and retired as a manager with an apparel outlet and manufacturing company.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. today at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with the Rev. Jim Tosto officiating. Interment services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Snow Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Gurganus was preceded in death by her husband, William Murphy Gurganus and a son, Kenneth Lee Gurganus.
Her surviving family includes her children, William Murphy Gurganus Jr. and wife, Shirley, of Creedmoor, A.C. Gurganus of Snow Hill, Henry Gurganus and wife, Anacelia, of Puebla, Mexico, Metta Betsy Gurganus of Raleigh and David Earl Gurganus of Snow Hill; sisters, Lib Harrison of Snow Hill, Belle Boyles of Kinston and Mildred West of Greenville; a brother, Jesse Oakes of Snow Hill; and grandchildren, Carla Michelle Gurganus and Franklin Grey Gurganus.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home of Jesse Oakes, 1783 Gurganus Road, Snow Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spring Arbor Resident Care Fund, 1810 New Hope Road, Raleigh, 27604.
