Sheffield Altice Sr., 64, of 1048 Saulston Road, Goldsboro, died Wednesday at his residence at 1048 Saulston Road.
The funeral will be at noon Wednesday at Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1065 Tommy's Road. Dr. R. L. Dawson, pastor of Woods Chapel FWB Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Altice was born in Mobile, Ala., to Catherine Packer Altice and Herman Altice II. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Altice II.
Mr. Altice was a member of Woods Chapel FWB Church, Goldsboro. He received his bachelor of science degree from Alabama State University in Montgomery, Ala., in 1964 and started his professional career as a teacher and coach in Clayton, Ala. He was also was a teacher and football coach in Farmville, Va. He taught in the Goldsboro City School System and coached football at Dillard High School. Mr. Altice retired from Cherry Hospital in 1999 as a recreational specialist after 30 years of service.
The viewing will be Tuesday from 2 until 4:30 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. at Woods Chapel FWB Church, 928 New Hope Road, Goldsboro.
Mr. Altice is survived by his wife, Hilda Earline Coley Altice, of the home; mother, Catherine Packer Altice; four sons, Derrick Altice and his wife, Tammy, of Atlanta, Ga., Sheffield Altice II of Laurel, Md., Andre D'Collo Altice of Atlanta, Ga., Terrance LaRon Altice of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Vernetta More and husband, Dwayne, of Mobile, Ala., Juacita Yalon Jones and husband, Gregory, of Goldsboro; three brothers, Herman Altice III and his wife, Barbara, of Mobile, Ala., Horace Altice and his wife, Shirley, of Mobile, Ala., Ralph Altice and his wife, Yolanda, of Mobile, Ala.; three sisters, Jacqueline Horton and husband, Curtis, of Mobile, Ala., Barbara A. George of Mobile, Ala., Cheryl A. Ridgeway and her husband, Promise, of Mobile, Ala.; 11 grandchildren, Darren, Dwan, Rashanna, Brandon, Tajiana, Jaylon, Gregory, Justice, Adonis, Derrick, and Seven; one great-grandchild, Kenyon; one aunt, Nell Ross Coleman of Mobile, Ala.; one uncle, Woodrow Packer and his wife, Edna, of Lawrenceville, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Earl Barnes of Goldsboro, Frederick D. Bibby of Richmond, Va., four sisters-in-law, Doris E. Joyner, Catherine C. Brown, Betty Barnes, all of Goldsboro, Janece I.J. Bibby of Richmond, Va.; two devoted friends from his hometown, Vernon Moses and Leon Jones of Mobile, Ala.; 13 nieces, 11 nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
