A Kinston man was arrested Wednesday for threatening a clerk at the Wayne County Courthouse.
Douglas Fabian Barnhill, 39 of 705 Perry St., Kinston, has been charged with one count of threats against executive, legislative or court officers.
According to sheriff's reports, threats of assault were allegedly being communicated to a clerk of court staff member at the Wayne County Courthouse on Wednesday.
Capt. Shawn Harris, with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, said that the threats were made while Barnhill was in court for a hearing regarding a child support case.
Harris also said there was no disruption in the court's schedule and the courthouse was never evacuated.
He also said that sheriff's department does not believe that Barnhill had any way of carrying out threats he made.
Barnhill was arrested and placed in the Wayne County Detention Center with a secured bond of $75,000.
