The driver of a Honda Accord is taken by a stretcher to an ambulance after being hit head-on at the intersection of Highway 111 North and Lancaster Road Wednesday.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated a crash that occurred on Wednesday just after 11:30 a.m. along N.C.111 North and Lancaster Road. A 2011 Silver Kia Forte driven by 36-year-old Jason Camaioni failed to yield to the driver of a 2005 Honda Accord driven by 37-year-old Lonnie Leopard and hit the Accord head-on.
The driver of the Kia had to be cut out of the car and was transported to Wayne UNC Health Care and later airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. It is not known the extent of injuries that he suffered. Trooper Justin Gorman said that charges will be filed against Camaioni.
The driver of the Honda Accord was also taken to Wayne UNC Health Care and the extent of his injuries are not known.
Trooper Gorman said that both vehicles were traveling at a speed of 45 mph when the crash occurred.
The road was closed for 45 minutes while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
