Mark Blomefield, right, sales manager for U.S. Cellular in Goldsboro, discusses voting for the company's second annual Black History Month Art Competition with David Hill, a U.S. Cellular customer from Goldsboro. The top 10 drawings from the area Boys and Girls Clubs will be on display at the U.S. Cellular store on Berkeley Boulevard, with residents encouraged to vote for their favorite.
Black History Month is being celebrated with an art contest, with residents of the community encouraged to pick the winner.
U.S. Cellular and the Boys and Girls Club of Wayne County selected the top 10 drawings for the second annual Black History Month Art Contest earlier this month.
In January, Boys and Girls Club members created original artwork in recognition of influential African-Americans, including business people, sports figures, historical figures and celebrities. The finalists' artwork will be on display at the U.S. Cellular store on Berkeley Boulevard through Feb. 28. The public is invited to stop in, and anyone 18 and older is eligible to vote for their favorite.
Winners of the contest will be determined by these votes and announced in early March.
Three winners will be chosen, with a $250 prize for first place, $150 for second and $100 for third place.
