Complaints of prostitution result in arrests

Full SizeRecent complaints of prostitution in the area of Lionel, East Walnut and North Leslie streets have so far resulted in two arrests this month.
An ongoing Goldsboro Police Department investigation in that area saw a Pikeville woman charged last week with solicitation and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A Goldsboro woman arrested Monday is accused of promoting prostitution for profit as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.
Capt. Joshua Stine said that loitering in the area is a contributing factor inhibiting what the department views as "quality of life" issues for the residents who live there.
Prostitution, he said, is unfortunately a negative byproduct of the loitering issue.
"The prostitution issues will move from one area of the city to another," he said.
As law enforcement investigates complaints in one area, it will then migrate to another.
The first arrest came Thursday, Feb. 1, after a traffic stop in the 1700 block of East Ash Street.
Crystal Lynn Kelly, 38, 106 Clawson Drive, was arrested and charged. She was placed under a $3,000 secured bond pending a first appearance in Wayne County District Court.
Then, on Monday, police officers with Goldsboro's Selective Enforcement Unit served an arrest warrant on Juanita Moody, 49, 905 E. Pine St.
Stine said that the difference in charges ---- promoting prostitution for Moody versus solicitation for Kelly ---- result from the fact that Moody, for lack of a better term, was acting in the role of what people might commonly refer to as a "pimp."
"She was trying to facilitate a date between an undercover (officer) and another woman," he said.
The "other woman" was not charged.
Moody was placed under a $6,000 secured bond pending her own first appearance in Wayne County District Court today.
Stine could not say for sure whether additional arrests will be made, but did confirm that the investigation is ongoing.
"We are continuing to work the area."
