The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a juvenile injured in the 1700 block of East Holly Street this morning.

Officers from the department's C-shift, VICE Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit were all on scene as the victim was taken to an ambulance on a stretcher.

They had responded to both a Shotspotter alert and a 911 call about someone lying on the ground in the 1700 block of East Holly Street.

Officers found the juvenile male near the intersection of North Madison Avenue and East Holly Street suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to Wayne UNC Health Care by Wayne County EMS before being taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

A press release said the juvenile's condition is unknown.

Maj. Anthony Carmon, head of the Goldsboro Police Department's Investigative Services Bureau, refused to release information on possible suspects and other details requested about the crime.

Police on scene did have several people in handcuffs on the scene, but released at least one of them.

It was not immediately clear exactly where the shooting happened, though officers were clustered behind and around the side of a duplex at 1711 E. Holly St.

One person on the scene said they were inside the Madison Market Grill & Grocery at the corner of East Holly Street and North Madison Avenue when the shooting happened.

The man said he heard two shots ring out while he was inside the business.

Police say the case remains under investigation.
