National Weather Service: Snowfall possible on Wednesday

An inch or less of snow is expected in Wayne County, along with other eastern portions of central North Carolina, with the snow forecast area stretching from the northernmost part of Halifax County to the southern tip of Sampson County.
As freezing temperatures sweep into the area, the National Weather Service is reporting that the chance of snowfall or snow/rain mix over the eastern portion of central North Carolina is possible Wednesday.
An inch or less of snow is expected in Wayne County, along with other eastern portions of central North Carolina, with the snow forecast area stretching from the northernmost part of Halifax County to the southern tip of Sampson County.
Accumulation of up to a half an inch are possible in the areas mainly east of I-95, with trace amounts of snowfall between U.S. 1 and I-95 expected. Light snowfall is expected to begin in the late morning hours of Wednesday and last through the evening.
"Confidence is high regarding the timing and precip type but lower regarding the amount," the National Weather Service said in an early morning briefing of weather conditions.
Though a chance of snow is forecast, the ramification of winter precipitation will likely not have a significant impact on travel as no icing is expected, but the National Weather Service does say there could be hazardous conditions over bridges and overpasses.
Today temperatures are expected to reach a sub-freezing 29 degrees with the wind chill at 19 degrees. Temperatures will dip down to 18 degrees by midnight with an estimated wind chill making it feel like it is 9 degrees.
Tuesday's forecast does not appear to be warmer, according to the National Weather Service forecast. By 6 a.m. Tuesday, the temperature will be 15 degrees with a wind chill estimated to be a biting 5 degrees.
Temperatures will cap out at 29 degrees Tuesday, dipping into the lower 20s into Tuesday night.
