A man was struck by a bullet early Wednesday morning when his house was sprayed with gunfire while he was lying on the couch.
Larry Dontaye Joyner, 33, was hit in the right side of his backside when almost 20 bullets struck his house at 1630 Tommy's Road.
Capt. Shawn Harris with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said investigators have not yet been able to determine if there was only one shooter, or if multiple people were firing weapons at the home.
After Joyner was hit, he crawled to a back bedroom inside the home.
Deputies arrived on the scene and found Joyner in the doorway of the back bedroom.
He was then taken to Wayne UNC Health Care by Wayne County EMS for further treatment.
Two other people live at the house and were home when the gunfire erupted, but were not hit.
Nobody inside the house at the time was able to tell authorities if the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle.
Harris confirmed this, saying the investigation had not yet discovered any information determining one way or another.
He added that Joyner is expected to recover and be fine.
