SEVEN SPRINGS -- A fight at Maynard's Night Club around 1 a.m. New Year's Day left one man with broken ribs, lacerations to his face and air in his lungs, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Colon Randy Gray, 53, was reportedly trying to help a friend find her pocket book inside the night club at 5404 N.C. 55 East before the fight broke out, the report said.
According to the report, Gray was trying to get around Dennis Randy Poythress, 60, of 188 Orchard Road, Elm City, and asked to get around him so he could continue looking for his friend's purse three times.
Gray then tried to move around Poythress, and Poythress then allegedly stood up and "got up in" Gray's face, the report said, telling him, "you are about to mess up, you're about to mess up."
Poythress then allegedly punched Gray in the face several times, knocking him to the ground, and then continued to kick Gray after he had already knocked him to the ground.
Maj. Tom Effler with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said the incident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
