A Goldsboro man charged by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office in connection with a residential break-in is also charged with failing to report a change of address as a registered sex offender.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has recently said it is investigating the more than 230 registered sex offenders living in Wayne County to verify their addresses. Anyone failing to report would be charged.
So when Anthony Wayne Morton, 50, of 135 Betty Drive, allegedly began pawning guitars stolen in June from a home in Goldsboro, deputies also charged him with failing to report the change of address within the required three-day period.
Morton is charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods, obtaining property by false pretense and failure to report a change of address by a sex offender. His bond has been set at $37,500.
According to a press release, a break-in was discovered June 23 at a home in Goldsboro. Among the items taken were five guitars and a sword. Two of the guitars -- including a burgundy Fender Stratocaster -- were sold at a local Trade It store. The three remaining guitars and the sword were recovered at the time of Morton's arrest, the press release said.
Morton is next due to appear in Wayne County District Court on July 15.
