Goldsboro's Police Department still has no leads on who might be responsible for the robbery of a local bank last week.
Sgt. Jeremy Sutton said police are searching for a black man, 6 feet 2 inches tall, in connection with the Dec. 17 robbery at the Wells Fargo branch on North Berkeley Boulevard. The man entered the bank at around 2:45 p.m., yelling, "Merry Christmas (expletive)" before firing a shotgun round into the ceiling.
Afterward, he held each teller at gunpoint, demanding his bag be filled with only $50 and $100 bills.
The man threatened the tellers, telling them to move quickly and not to press the silent alarm. He also commanded everyone to lie face down on the floor.
Eyewitnesses at the scene -- who wish to remain anonymous until the suspect is caught -- said the man left the bank silently and that they were unaware the suspect had left until people started moving around the bank.
The entire robbery took only a few minutes but felt like an eternity, witnesses said.
A teller called in the robbery after the unknown suspect fled the bank with an undisclosed sum of money.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255.
