Twain to be portrayed at UMO

MOUNT OLIVE -- Experience a live performance portraying one of America's most beloved figures on Saturday, Nov. 15 when the University of Mount Olive will host a theatrical evening with the American icon Mark Twain played by Mount Olive native John Clifton.
The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Historic Assembly Hall, 207 Wooten St.
Clifton began his theatrical career at the University of North Carolina, where he studied voice and drama. Clifton also specialized in character development, mime techniques, narrative and vocal development, and vocal training with German opera star Helga Bullock, mother of Sandra Bullock.
With 25 years of theatre experience and a host of famous theatre character portrayals under his belt, Clifton is a natural choice to bring Mark Twain to life.
"An Evening with Mark Twain" will be a hilarious and insightful recreation of an actual lecture that the world famous humorist and author would have given during his highly acclaimed world tour culminating in 1905, UMO officials said
In his customary white suit and ever-present cigar, Twain will take audience members through a fascinating panoply of uproarious comedy, gentle reminiscence, biting social satire, and often dark commentary of the human condition.
The event is sponsored by the La Belle Epoque, the university's drama club and The Fine Arts Circle.
Admission is free and the public is invited.
