Suspect will face three drug charges

A federal investigation conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad resulted in an arrest Friday.
Brandon Wayne Woodruff, 32, of 423 Hinnant Road in Pikeville, is in the Wayne County Jail today under a $1.5 million secured bond.
Woodruff is charged with two counts of trafficking more than 28 grams of heroin, and one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine.
Maj. Tom Effler of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said this type of investigation is usually called for by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Raleigh, but that the designation of Wayne County as a high intensity drug trafficking area is nothing new.
"Anytime you have a major highway (system) nearby, you are going to be a corridor for trafficking. We are so close to I-40, I-85, I-795," Effler said.
Armed with information that Woodruff would be delivering a quantity of heroin, the drug task force agents conducted a traffic stop of his vehicle along U.S. Highway 70 near Claridge Nursery Road.
Woodruff allegedly possessed more than 28 grams of heroin and 10 grams of methamphetamine.
The agents took Woodruff into custody without incident and placed him in the Wayne County Jail, where he is currently awaiting a first appearance in Wayne County District Court later today.
