Man charged in farm heist

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has identified and captured the man they say is responsible for an armed robbery that took place at a turkey farm earlier this month.
Casey Roberto Maddox, 21, of 118 Pearlie Drive in Dudley, is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $185,000 secured bond.
Maddox is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping, stemming from an incident in which he fired a shot at the feet of the man he was trying to rob.
Maj. Tom Effler of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office explained the kidnapping charge.
"Anytime you have someone who is forced under the threat of violence to move somewhere, that's kidnapping."
On April 12, deputies were called out to a turkey farm located on N.C. Highway 111 S. near highway 55. The name of the farm was not released.
At the location, an employee of the farm, Fernando Salinas, reported that he was approached by a man who pulled up in a van and brandished a gun.
Salinas, whose own truck was nearby, attempted to give the robber the money from his pocket.
Salinas said the suspect indicated he wanted the money from the truck, not from the victim's pocket. He fired a single shot into the ground to show Salinas he meant business.
Salinas also told deputies the man threatened him by saying that if he didn't give up the money, he would be killed.
Before Salinas could get to his truck, other employees of the farm were seen coming toward the two men. The robber jumped back in his van and fled.
Salinas, now joined by one of the other employees, attempted to give chase, but his truck got stuck in the field.
Throughout the course of their investigation, Det. Sgt. Larry Mitchell, Cpl. Garrison Nance and Deputy Brian Percise developed Maddox as a suspect. He was arrested Monday, without incident, and charged with the two felonies.
