Three private schools recognize honor grads

The first round of high school graduations kicks off this weekend.
Faith Christian Academy will have 22 students receiving diplomas Friday at 7 p.m.
Ceremonies will be held at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dann Patrick, pastor, speaking to the Class of 2012.
Valedictorian Christina Powell and salutatorian Michael Clarke will also be on the program.
Ms. Powell plans to attend Campbell University in the fall, to study biology. Clarke says he is undecided about a major but will start out at Wayne Community College.
Wayne Early/Middle College High School commencement will be held on the graduation field on the Wayne Community College campus Thursday, May 24, at 6 p.m. Keynote speaker will be senior Alex Breindel, while classmate Robbie Johnson will make student remarks.
More than half of the graduating class is also walking away with two-year college degrees this year.
There are 29 candidates for high school diplomas, while 34 are expected to be awarded high school diplomas and associate in arts or associate in science degrees, and three have earned high school diplomas, associate in arts and associate in science degrees.
Wayne Country Day School ceremonies will be held Friday, May 25, at 11 a.m.
The event will feature music by the Carolina Brass, presentation of the excellence in teaching award and the announcement of the senior gift, followed by the presentation of diplomas to 17 candidates.
Valedictorian is Katherine Roethling, who plans to study journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall. Two students tied for salutatorian honors. Catherine Ford and Hil Tanner have both been accepted to Wake Forest University, where they will study psychology and biology, respectively. Pam Diffee, English, art, cinema and journalism teacher, was chosen by the graduating class to give the faculty address.
The evening of May 25, Wayne School of Engineering will hold commencement at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of Goldsboro High School. There are 75 candidates for diplomas.
Speakers include seniors Reikeme Cannon, Hunter Houtzer and Taylor Carrere.
Wayne Christian School will hand out 19 diplomas to its 25th graduating class at the school on Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m. in the school gymnasium.
Pastor Dean Hightower, past chairman of the WCS school board and member of the founding school board in 1978, will address the graduates, which include his granddaughter, Carly Hightower.
Valedictorian Britney O'Hara and salutatorian Taurell Singletary also will speak.
Ms. O'Hara will be studying psychology at Lenoir Community College. Singletary intends to study business management at North Georgia College and State University.
