Another driver hits branch of post office

Goldsboro Firefighters and EMS quickly remove a man from the William Street Post Office after another car goes crashing through the big glass wall on the South side of the building near the public entrance. Several people were in the hallway when they heard the crash of the breaking glass and saw bricks flying. A man was struck by flying objects as he tried to dive out of the way.
A Goldsboro woman drove her car through the windows and wall of the William Street Postal Service office on Tuesday, injuring a Goldsboro man, police said.
Ethel Edwards, 83, was charged with failure to reduce speed after crashing her 2004 Ford sedan into the building about 1 p.m., Goldsboro Police Capt. Theresa Chiero said.
Mrs. Edwards apparently was trying to park when the incident occurred, investigators said.
"Looking at the narrative, the driver stated she hit the accelerator instead of brake when attempting to stop in a parking space," Capt. Chiero said.
The impact pushed the sedan "through the wall and windows," according to the report.
Donald Ebron, 60, was inside the post office during the crash.
"He was struck by debris and the vehicle, and he was thrown to the ground. He reported injuries to his side and shoulder," Capt. Chiero said.
Ebron was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital. A hospital spokesman said this morning that he had been treated and released.
Mrs. Edwards, of U.S. 70 West, reportedly was not injured.
Tuesday's incident was not the first time a local Postal Service office has been involved in a vehicle crash.
Most recently, on Feb. 5, a car crashed into the front of the Berkeley branch office on Cashwell Drive, causing the office to close for the remainder of the day while repairs were made.
