Sarah Jane Powers and Charles P. Gaylor IV exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony July 28, 2012, at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Sanford, with Dr. Jeff Clark officiating.
The bride is the daughter of James Berry Powers Jr. and Amanda Maness Powers of Sanford and the granddaughter of the late James Berry Powers Sr. and Charlotte Williams Powers of New Bern and the late Elwood Lee Maness and Martha Lawson Maness of New Bern.
She is a graduate of Lee County High School, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from North Carolina State University and her Masters of Accountancy from Appalachian State University. She is employed as a tax associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Greensboro.
The groom is the son of Charles Parson Gaylor III and Rhonda McDonald Gaylor of Goldsboro and the grandson of the late Charles P Gaylor Jr. and Mildred Ellis Gaylor of Goldsboro and John Calhoun McDonald and the late Lucille Cain McDonald of Goldsboro.
He graduated from Eastern Wayne High School, earned Bachelor of Science degrees in both textile technology and textile and apparel management from North Carolina State University and earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Campbell University. He is currently in his third year at Elon University School of Law.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a white Allure strapped gown with a fitted bodice and a V-shaped neckline of lace, pearls and crystals. The ruched waist of silk organza and silk flowers flowed into a modified a-line silk organza skirt with covered buttons and crystals along its chapel-length train.
She wore an elbow-length veil embellished with pearls, beads and crystals.
The bride carried a bouquet of white tea roses, antique heirloom garden roses and limelight hydrangeas that were hand-tied with lace from her mother’s wedding gown embellished with pearl studs and her Nanny’s pearl broach.
Miss Madison Everett Owen was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Mrs. Brittany Ham Acree, Miss Erin Michelle Acree, Mrs. Jennifer Sovacool Bell, Miss Abby Elizabeth McSwain and Miss Erin Melissa Milligan.
Charles P Gaylor III served as best man.
Groomsmen were Mr. Michael Kevin Acree Jr., Mr. Michael Aljournan Ellis, Mr. Tyler James Hansen, Mr. Jason Maness Powers, Mr. David Elliot Puckett and Mr. Gregory Trent Stryker.
Ushers were Mr. Kevin Andrew Herndon, Mr. Jonathan David Lipka and Mr. Bradley Paige Young.
Betty Thompson and Judy Thomas directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Miss Meghan Adelaide Maness. Mrs. Meagan Lee Daly and Miss Mallory Amanda Lee distributed programs.
Mrs. Stacy Shields Lee was reader, and Mrs. Becky Blanchard was vocalist.
Mrs. Dianne Stanley was organist, accompanied by harpist, Mr. Joe Hanna.
A reception was hosted by the bride’s parents at Sanford Elks Club.
After a wedding trip to Jalousie Plantation in Soufriere, Saint Lucia, the couple resides in Greensboro.
A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents at C.H.I Thyme Room in Sanford.
Events held before the wedding included an engagement party hosted by Dr. John Maness, uncle of the bride, and Ms. Frances Manning in Greensboro; a garden party hosted by friends and family of the couple at the home of the groom’s parents in Goldsboro; a “bridal basket” shower hosted by St. Luke Preschool staff at St. Luke United Methodist Church; a “company’s coming” entertainment shower hosted by friends of the bride and groom at Westlake Club; a bridal shower hosted by First Baptist Church of Goldsboro; a bridesmaids’ luncheon hosted by Jane Powers Archer, Kathy Maness,and Ruth Powers, aunts of the bride, at Mrs. Lacy’s Tea Room; and a wedding day luncheon hosted at First Baptist Church in Sanford by Brenda Gunn and Teresa McLean.
