Meredith Lane Davis of Mount Olive and Matthew Gray Holmes exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 23, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Rhodes Friends Church in Mount Olive, with Carroll Overman officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Kenneth Earl Davis Jr. of Mount Olive and Jeanette Sullivan Davis of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Edna Faye Davis of Mount Olive and the late Kenneth Earl Davis Sr. of Dudley, Virginia Bryan Sullivan of Mount Olive and the late John Lawrence Sullivan of Mount Olive.

She is a 2008 graduate of Southern Wayne High School and a 2012 graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science. She is currently attending North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

The groom is the son of David Hal and Jenny Howell Holmes of Mount Olive and the grandson of the late Paul Herring and Ora Wade Holmes of Mount Olive, Thurston and Elizabeth Howell Quinn of Seven Springs and the late Donald Earl Howell of Mount Olive.

He is a 2008 graduate of Southern Wayne High School and a 2011 graduate of Nash Community College’s Electrical Lineman Academy. He is employed as an apprentice electrical lineman at T and D Solutions in Kinston.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a white taffeta gown with a lace halter and an open back. The waistline was accented with ruching and a side drape. The skirt and chapel-length train were adorned with beaded lace appliques.

The bride wore a headband adorned with Swarovski crystals and a fingertip-length veil edged in beads and sequins.

The bride carried a bouquet of plum and white roses, plum and white calla lilies and a single purple iris. It was accented with white tulle and wrapped in satin ribbon.

Nikki Thornton, cousin of the bride, served as matron of honor, while Lynn Grantham, friend of the bride, was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Morgan and Madison Davis, sisters of the bride; Alexandria Davis and Haley Fail, friends of the bride; and Ashton Eakes, college roommate of the bride.

Hal Holmes, father of the groom, served as best man.

Groomsmen were David Holmes, brother of the groom; J.L. Pate, uncle of the groom; Cody Richards, Cameron Wiggins and Bradley Taylor, friends of the groom; and Kyle Stuart, cousin of the bride.

Riley Davis, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. Allie Reaves and Claire Thornton, cousins of the bride, were flower babies.

Reid Grady, cousin of the groom, was ringbearer.

Carol Gray directed the wedding. Presiding at the register were Rita and Billy Long, aunt and uncle of the bride. Caitlyn Grady, cousin of the groom, distributed programs.

Madison Howell distributed birdseed bags.

A program of wedding music was provided by Tom Casey, pianist, and Lauren Weeks, vocalist.

A reception was held in the church fellowship hall. Karen and Jerry Reaves, aunt and uncle of the bride, greeted guests. Ann Sasser and Sandra Weeks served the wedding cake. Kaye Parrish and Debra Grantham served punch. Michael Wiggs presented the couple at the reception and offered a toast. Other special helpers were Mary and Wayne Sullivan, aunt and uncle of the bride, Donna Westrook, Ray Weeks and Marian Everhart.

After a wedding trip to Boone, the couple resides in Mount Olive.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner June 22 at Rhodes Friends Church fellowship hall. The bride and groom presented gifts to their attendants and special helpers.

Events held before the wedding included an engagement party Sept. 17, 2011, at The Big Barn Theatre hosted by the parents of the bride and groom; a wedding shower April 22 at Rhodes Friends Church hosted by family and friends of the bride and groom; a lingerie shower June 9 at the home of Lynn Grantham hosted by Lynn Grantham, Nikko Thornton and Haley Fail; and a bridesmaids’ breakfast June 22 at IHOP hosted by Rita Long and Karen Reaves.
