Massey - Gray
Emily Kathryn Gray of Raleigh and Thomas Chase Massey of Raleigh exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. at The Village Chapel in Pinehurst, with the Rev. Ashley N. Smith officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Marvin Kenneth Gray Jr. and Barbara Fisher Gray of Midlothian, Va., and the granddaughter of the Hon. Marvin Kenneth and Carol Hyland Gray of Charlotte and Hilbert Cobb and Susan Gulledge Fisher of Southern Pines.
She is a 2006 graduate of Clover Hill High School in Virginia and a 2010 graduate of North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in communication. She is employed as a project coordinator at Capstrat.
The groom is the son of Louis Carlisle and Lu Chase Massey of Eureka and the grandson of the Rev. Gerald Rudolph Massey, the late Dorothy Jackson Massey, Janice Sasser Chase and the late Thomas Edward Chase of Eureka.
He is a 2003 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and a 2008 graduate of North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He is employed as a civil engineer at Kleinfelder.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore an ivory gown of silky taffeta with a pleated bodice and empire band embellished with feathers and rhinestone accents. The shirred ballgown skirt fell into a chapel train.
Her headpiece was a cathedral-length veil of ivory tulle.
The bride carried a round hand-tied bouquet of purple and white lisianthus, hydrangea, miniature calla lilies, circus roses and green hypericum berries.
Carrie Gray Love of Charlotte was her sister’s matron of honor, while
Bridesmaids were Ashley Williams of Christiansburg, Va., Kendra Grinnage of Sparks Glencoe, Md., Shannon Marklin of Richmond, Va., Blair Byrnside of Falls Church, Va., Kristi Carl of Raleigh and Sarah Sobel of New York, N.Y.
Louis Massey was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Jackson Massey of Goldsboro, brother of the groom; Johnny Chase of Eureka, uncle of the groom; Billy Hamm and Taylor Myers of Raleigh; Brendan Byrnside of Falls Church, Va.; and Kyle Aiton of Cheyenne, Wyo.
Ushers were John Fairley of Southport, Thomas Webb of Stantonsburg and Dave Elmore, Tyler Mooring, Matt Spence and Will Spence of Eureka.
Honorary bridesmaids were Kathryn Gray Boland of Charlotte, Maggie McPherson and Sarah McPherson of Christiansburg, Va., cousins of the bride.
John W. Shannon directed the wedding, assisted by Iris Davis of Wilmington.
A program of wedding music was provided by John W. Shannon, organist, and Emily Braun, violinist.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at the Fair Barn Pinehurst.
After their wedding trip to Aruba, the couple will reside in Raleigh.
Events held before the wedding included a couples’ shower March 25 in Raleigh hosted by friends of the couple; a bridesmaids’ weekend June 3 through 5 hosted by bride’s sister, Carrie Gray Love of Oak Island, sister of the bride; a barbecue supper June 25 in Stantonsburg hosted by groom’s great-aunt, Leona Cobb, and aunts and uncles, Jan and Clay Fairley, Sue and Ricky Webb; a bridal shower July 10 at Eureka United Methodist Church hosted by the groom’s grandmother, Janice Chase of Eureka, and aunt, Delores Cobb of Cary; a pig picking and couple’s shower July 9 in Eureka hosted and couples shower hosted by friends of the groom’s family; a wedding shower Aug. 6 hosted by the bride’s aunt and uncle, Jane and Mark Boland, and the bride’s grandparents, Marvin and Carol Gray of Charlotte; a bridal shower Aug. 27 hosted by Marilyn Blake of Midlothian Va.; and a bridesmaids’ luncheon Sept. 23 at The Carolina in Pinehurst hosted by the bride’s aunts, Laurie Fisher of Charlotte and Amy McPherson of Christiansburg, Va.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner Sept. 23 at Table on the Green in Pinehurst.
