Kirkland-Lancaster
Jennifer April Lancaster of Pikeville and Matthew Ryan Kirkland exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 25 at 3 p.m. at Saulston United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rick D. Ward officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Steve and Robin Talton Lancaster of Pikeville and the granddaughter of the late Deems and Kathleen Sewell Lancaster of Pikeville and the late Edward Leroy and Emma Mozingo Talton of Goldsboro.
She graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School in 2003, magna cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in music education and from East Carolina University in 2010 with a master’s degree in education. She is employed as a music and chorus teacher at Greenwood Middle School.
The groom is the son of Thurman Borden and Jennie Howard Kirkland of Tarboro and the grandson of Joseph Adams and Mildred Anderson Taylor, the Rev. Noah Baker and Evelyn Baker Howard of Tarboro.
He graduated from Tarboro High School in 2001 and magna cum laude from North Carolina Wesleyan College in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He is employed as a veterinary technician at Banfield Veterinary Clinic.
The bride wore an ivory and pearl A-line strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline with a beaded ruched bodice and a dropped waist with cascading tiers of taffeta flowing asymmetrically to the floor in a petticoat fashion and taffeta tucks flowing into a chapel-length train. A taffeta flower on the left hip accented the gown.
Her headpiece was a fingertip-length veil with an attached blusher with flower petal embroidery with Swarovski crystals and a sequin trim.
Katlyn Nicole Lancaster of Pikeville was her sister’s maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Katie Fountain Huneycutt of Fairmont, Samantha Brooke Lawrence of Snow Camp, Gloria Elizabeth Spillers of Wilmington and Lauren Jo Kirkland of Tarboro.
Justin Howard Kirkland of Durham was his brother’s best man.
Groomsmen were Nicholas Reid Aycock and Raymond Matthew Parrisher of Tarboro and William Leon Henderson of Mayodon, friends of the groom, and Thurman Borden Kirkland, father of the groom.
Abigail Marie Buck of Pikeville, cousin of the bride, was the junior bridesmaid.
Valorie Diane Lancaster and Tristen Gabriel Talton, cousins of the bride, were flower girls. Ethan McCrae Boyd, nephew of the groom was the ringbearer.
Pam Carey Ginn, friend of bride’s family, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Alice Louise Breedlove, friend of bride’s family. Alice Louise Breedlove, friend of the bride’s family, distributed programs.
Katlyn Nicole Lancaster, sister of the bride, was the reader.
A program of wedding music was provided by Nikea D. Randolph, pianist, and Gloria Elizabeth Spillers, vocalist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church fellowship hall.
After their wedding trip to cruise with to the Bahamas and Key West, the couple will reside in Pikeville.
Events held before the wedding included an ornament shower Jan. 8 at the home of the bride’s parents hosted by Teresa Fountain and Katie Fountain Huneycutt; a church shower April 3 at Saulston United Methodist Church hosted by Saulston Methodist Women; a lingerie shower May 21 at the home of the bride hosted by Samantha Brooke Lawrence; a bachelorette party the weekend of June 3 at Plantation Resort in Myrtle Beach, S.C., hosted by Katlyn Nicole Lancaster, Katie Fountain Huneycutt and Samantha Lawrence; and a bachelor party June 18 and 19 in Chapel Hill hosted by the groomsmen.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner June 24 at Plank Road Steakhouse in Farmville.
