Kornegay - Barwick
Lindsay Katherine Barwick of Mount Olive and Dr. Jonathan Hargett Kornegay of Greenville exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Sept. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the home of the groom’s parents in Calypso, with the Rev. Chris Currie of Edinburgh, Scotland, officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Danny Martin and Mary Ann Barwick of Mount Olive and the granddaughter of Grover Millard and Betty Hall of Mount Olive, the late Kathleen Meness Hall and Charles Benton and Marie Kennedy of Goldsboro.
She graduated from Southern Wayne High School in 2000 and magna cum laude from East Carolina University in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in business education. She is employed as a marketing teacher at Rosewood High School.
The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Hervy B. Kornegay Sr. of Calypso and the grandson of Hazel Waters Kornegay, the late Adolph Kornegay, the late Hervy Battle Kornegay and Edwina Sutton Kornegay of Calypso.
He graduated from North Duplin High School in 2000, magna cum laude from East Carolina University in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and the Brody School of Medicine in 2008. He is a third-year internal medicine and pediatrics resident at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore an ivory A-line strapless gown of Godavari silk. The ruched bodice featured inverted pleats at the empire waistline, and was embellished with beaded appliqués.
Her headpiece was an ivory finger-tip-length double-tiered veil.
The bride carried a clutch bouquet of yellow sunflowers, purple irises, viking poms, hypericum berries, hanging amaranths and purple statice.
Lisa Anderson Dail was her cousin’s matron of honor, while Jenny Leigh Grady, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Tiffany Denton Ellis and Megan Lee Matthews, friends of the bride, and Kayla Marie Wise, cousin of the bride.
Dr. Hervy B. Kornegay Sr. was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Dr. Hervy B. Kornegay Jr., Dr. Christopher Chad Kornegay, Dr. Jeffrey Todd Kornegay and Paul Robert Kornegay, brothers of the groom.
Ushers were William Justin Best, Thomas Lee Holland, Ramsey Thomas Turner and James Thomas Wolfe, friends of the groom.
Hannah Elizabeth Kornegay, niece of the groom, was flower girl. Caden Brock Dail and Lucas Craig Dail, cousins of the bride, and Christopher Elliot Kornegay, nephew of the groom, were ringbearers.
Rachel Kennedy directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Dr. Kori Buckner Whitley. Brooks Daly Garrett and Martha Warren Smith distributed programs.
Scripture reader was Catherine Kelly Boswell.
A program of wedding music was provided by Dr. Charles Bath, pianist, and Joanne Bath and Pam Kelly, violinists.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held. Kathy Jacobs, aunt of the bride, was the director. Betty Lou Waters Kornegay, aunt of the groom, cut the wedding cake.
After their wedding trip to Kahuku, Oahu, Hawaii, the couple will reside in Greenville.
Events held before the wedding included a his-and-hers garden shower at the home of the bride hosted by her family; a bride’s weekend in Charleston, S.C., hosted by Jenny Leigh Grady; a shower at Calypso Presbyterian Church hosted by friends and ladies of the church; a pig picking at the home of Eva and Delano Hill hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harrell, Mr. and Mrs. Delano Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Kornegay, Mr. and Mrs. Ray McDonald and Mr. and Mrs. David Shelton; a groom’s weekend in Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a lingerie shower at Lotus Restaurant hosted by co-workers of the bride: a bridal supper at the home of Beth Hill hosted by Mrs. Hill, Jo Ann Smith, Kaye Barro and Rebecca Davis; a dinner at J.W.’s Place in Calypso hosted by Jimmie and Rita Wolfe and James and Kim Wolfe; and a bridesmaid’s luncheon at Murphy’s Restaurant hosted by Marie Kennedy.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Country Squire in Warsaw.
