Grantham - Joyner
MOUNT OLIVE — Dr. JaNae Joyner of Winston-Salem and Brett Edward Grantham exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. at First Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Doug Bartlett officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Lynn Herring Joyner and the late P. Leo Joyner of Mount Olive and the granddaughter of the late Uriah and Penny Odom Joyner and the late James Franklin and Carrie Powell Herring of Mount Olive.
She graduated as valedictorian from Southern Wayne High School in 1998; Mount Olive College in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and a minor in chemistry and Wake Forest University in 2007 with a Ph.D. degree in molecular medicine. She was president of the student government association and Henderson Science Club at Mount Olive College and published scientific research in the field of hypertension during pregnancy, receiving numerous scientific society awards including an American Heart Association predoctoral fellowship. She is employed with the Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension Control and Wake Forest University as a project manager/scientific writer.
The groom is the son of Bill and Brenda Johnson and the late Edward Lee Grantham of Mount Olive and the grandson of the late Richard Lee and Thelma Price Grantham, Mildred Jordan and the late Almond Jordan of Mount Olive.
He graduated from Southern Wayne High School in 1995 and East Carolina University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in fine art. He attends East Carolina University for a Master of Education degree in art education. He is employed with Lenior County Schools at Sampson School as a high school art teacher.
The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her mother.
She wore a wore a chiffon empire A-line gown with a pleated bust, beaded spaghetti straps and a beaded embroidered illusion back. It had a sweep train.
The bride carried a mixture of pink roses, pink Gerber daisies, pink calla lilies, white roses, blue perennials, baby’s breath and greenery.
Robin Hall was matron of honor.
Bill Johnson was best man.
Ushers were Gene Rodgers, Lance Hall, Colin Hall and Matt Bryan.
Gayle Kaebs directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Beth Painter. Georgia Rodgers and Caroline Hall distributed programs.
Special helpers were Marlin Painter, David Letchworth, Amanda Stafford, Aaron Stafford, Madison Stafford and Sylvia Lee.
A program of wedding music was provided by Amy and Kevin Mooring, pianists, and Amy and Kevin Mooring, vocalists.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church fellowship hall.
After a wedding trip to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., the couple reside in Mount Olive.
Events held before the wedding included a wedding shower Sept. 28 at Sampson School hosted by school co-workers; a house-warming shower Aug. 31 at Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church; and a lingerie and miscellaneous shower June 21 at the home of Amanda, Aaron and Madison Stafford.
A rehearsal dinner was held Oct. 3 at Pizza Village. The couple choose this time to present gifts to their attendants.
