Ruhl - Baker
Sara Ann Baker and Tobias Mark Ruhl exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. at Lane Tree Country Club, with the Rev. Al Thompson officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Robert and Karen Baker of Mount Olive and the granddaughter of Ann Baker, the late Joseph Baker, Mary Catherine Schultheis and the late James Schultheis of Goldsboro.
She is a 2002 graduate of Southern Wayne High School and a 2006 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a bachelor’s degree in history. She is a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. She is employed as a seventh-grade language arts and social studies teacher at Norwayne Middle School.
The groom is the son of Gerard and Wilma Ruhl of Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and the grandson of Gerardus Rühl and the late Maria Ruhl, Sara Feder and the late Jan Munne of Rotterdam.
He is a 2001 graduate of Melanchton College in Rotterdam and attends Hogeschool Rotterdam with a for a bachelor’s degree in graphic media technology.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a strapless A-line satin gown with a beaded lace trim and a cathedral-length train.
Her headpiece was a ribbon edge double-layer fingertip veil.
The bride carried a cascade bouquet of orchids and red tulips centered around yellow calla lilies.
Jesi Knowles-Brock was her friend’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Alison Baker, sister of the bride, and Kelly Dodson and Cassandra Banks, friends of the bride.
Frank Ruhl was his brother’s best man.
Groomsmen were Gerard Ruhl, father of the groom; Lukas Baker, brother of the bride; and Niels Laven, friend of the groom.
Kelly Gettle, cousin of the bride, was the junior bridesmaid.
Brennon Knowles was ringbearer.
Jeff Cannon directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Meredith Batchelor.
A program of wedding music was provided by Mike Nault, pianist.
Following the ceremony, a dinner and dance reception was held at Lane Tree Country Club. Kathleen Schultheis served the wedding cake.
After a wedding trip to the Poconos, Pa., the couple reside in Pikeville.
Events held before the wedding included a guys’ night out Oct. 9 in Surf City hosted by Frank Ruhl; a bridal shower Oct. 2 hosted by seventh-grade teachers at Norwayne Middle School; a lingerie shower Sept. 13 in Topsail Island hosted by Jesi Knowles-Brock; a bachelorette party and weekend retreat Sept. 12 through 14 in Topsail Island hosted by Jayne Knowles and Jesi Knowles-Brock; and a bridal shower Sept. 6 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church hosted by Beth Gettle.
The couple held a rehearsal dinner at McCall’s Restaurant.
