Leahy - Mercer
PIKEVILLE — Kate Ann Mercer of Raleigh and Sean Patrick Leahy of Raleigh exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 14 at 5 p.m. at St. Joseph United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William Creech officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Donald Ray and Vikki Best Mercer of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Estelle Mercer and the late Claude Mercer of Wilson and Edwin “Bud” Best and the late Eva “Duck” Best of Goldsboro.
She graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science and East Carolina University with a Masters of Public Administration degree. She is employed at Progress Energy.
The groom is the son of Joseph Francis and Rosanne Vickery Leahy of New Bern and the grandson of the late Robert Leahy and Freda Leahy of Binghamton, N.Y., and Raymond “Vick” and Frances Vickery of New Bern.
He graduated from New Bern High School and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He is employed at Progress Energy.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore an ivory strapless gown with beaded lace adorning the lower part of the bodice, hemline and semi-cathedral train.
Her veil was single-tiered and elbow-length.
The bride carried a clutch bouquet of Gerber daisies, Virginia and yellow roses and other assorted flowers.
Amy Myers of Ocean Isle Beach was her friend’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Erin Bidwell of Charlotte and Christan Jackson of Dunn, friends of the bride, and Kelly Flanagan of Greensboro, sister of the groom.
Joseph Leahy of Raleigh, was his brother’s best man.
Groomsmen were Michael Harris of Raleigh and Jonanthan Hartman of Wilmington, friends of the groom, and Thomas Flanagan of Greensboro, brother-in-law of the groom.
Chelsea Vickery of Greenville, cousin of the groom, was the junior bridesmaid. Jacob Vickery of Greenville, cousin of the groom, was the junior groomsman.
Ushers were Jason Plummer and Blake Plummer of Goldsboro, friends of the bride.
Casey Vickery of Greenville, cousin of the groom, was flower girl. Patrick Flanagan of Greensboro, nephew of the groom, was ringbearer.
Janet Davis directed the wedding. Presiding at the register were David and Alison Vause of Wilmington. Tara Young of Chicago, Ill., and Lee Little of Wilmington distributed programs.
Natalie Jordan of Gastonia, friend of the groom, was acolyte.
A program of wedding music was provided by Karen Patzer, vocalist, and Randy Prosser, organist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Lane Tree Golf Club. Margaret Anderson and Patsy White of Goldsboro, great-aunts of the bride, cut the cake. Sheila Crawford and Lindsay, Meredith, Leslie and Sarah of Pikeville, friends of the bride’s family, greeted guests.
After a wedding trip to Egypt, the couple reside in Willow Spring.
Events held before the wedding included a bridesmaids’ luncheon June 13 at the Royal Tea Room hosted by the bride’s family; a reception June 9 at the bride’s workplace hosted by co-workers of the bride; an engagement party May 3 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gray Wheeler hosted by the Wheelers, Judge and Mrs. Ben Alford, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Leggett and family of the groom; a floating bridal shower April 26 at St. Joseph United Methodist Church fellowship hall hosted by Sheila Crawford, Pam Newcomb, Merelo Watt, Cindy Sanford and Susan Davis; and a wedding party luncheon March 8 in Raleigh hosted by friends and family of the bride.
A rehearsal dinner was held at Walnut Creek Country Club.
