Lane - Young
GRANTHAM — Wendy Michelle Young and Christopher Burnice “Arab” Lane exchanged vows March 22 at 4 p.m. at Selah Christian Church, with the Rev. Ralph Parker officiating.
The bride is the daughter of William “Duke” and Pennie Young of Grantham and the granddaughter of Esther Edwards of Goldsboro, the late Luby “Bill” Edwards and the late Vernon and Maggie Young of Grantham.
She is a 2001 graduate of Southern Wayne High School and attends Wayne Community College for a nursing degree.
The groom is the son of Bernice and Betty Lane of Grantham and the grandson of Betty Lane of Dudley, the late Gurney Lane and Juanita Brock Gregory of Goldsboro and the late George Gregory.
He is employed with L&L Auto Sales of Mount Olive.
The bride was escorted by her father and presented in marriage by her parents.
She wore a gown of peau de soie with a halter V-neckline. The bodice was accented with beaded metallic embroidery and a pleated midriff. Satin-covered buttons trimmed the back zipper. A full A-line skirt with matching embroidery motifs extended into a semi-cathedral train.
Her headpiece was a veil with metallic embroidery on the edge to match the gown.
The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of pink stargazer lilies, pink roses, white orchids, tulips and daffodils accented with pink, blue, purple and yellow Gerber daisies. It was tied with assorted ribbons.
Summer Young of Dunn was her cousin’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Amy Kimbrough of Grantham, sister-in-law of the groom, and Ashton Stribble, Laura Smith, Christy Hamilton and Nita Thompson, friends of the couple.
Junior bridesmaids were Courtney Young, niece of the bride, and Katlyn Kimbrough, niece of the groom.
Bernice Lane was his son’s best man.
Ushers were Michael “Red” Lozier, Matthew Lane and Todd Grantham, friend of the couple.
Groomsmen were Tim Kimbrough, brother of the groom; Gary Young, brother of the bride; Larry Lane, cousin of the groom; and Jackie Potter and Jerry Wayne Hamilton, friends of the couple.
Emily Kimbrough, niece of the groom, was flower girl. Jared Creech was ringbearer.
JoAnn Blackmon, great-aunt of the groom, and Melodie Blackmon, cousin of the groom, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register and distributing programs was Lisa Lane, aunt of the groom.
A program of wedding music was provided by Ashleigh Westbrook, friend of the couple, vocalist.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception in the church fellowship hall. Laverne Thompson, aunt of the groom, and Debbie Thompson were servers. Sherri Martin, friend of the couple, poured punch. Janice Edwards, aunt of the bride, served the wedding cake.
After a wedding trip to Orlando, Fla., the couple reside in Grantham.
Events held before the wedding included a bachelorette party March 15 in Raleigh hosted by Summer Young; a wedding shower March 2 at Woodmen of the World building in Grantham hosted by Pennie Young and Betty Lane; a bachelor party Feb. 16; and a lingerie shower Feb. 16 at the home of Amy Kimbrough hosted by Ms. Kimbrough, Nita Thompson and Christy Hamilton.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner March 21 in the church fellowship hall.
