Uzzell - Joyner
Theresa Ann Joyner of Pikeville and Markham Keith Uzzell of Pikeville exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony July 7 at 4 p.m. at St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daniel Uzzell officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Fred Tate Jr. and Dorothy Joyner Washington of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Theresa Hodges Jones of Charlotte, the late Fred Tate Sr. of Philadelphia, Pa., and Albert Daye Sr. and Gladys Joyner Thompson of Goldsboro.
She is a 1985 graduate of Goldsboro High School and Wayne Community College with a nursing diploma. She is employed with Wayne County Public Schools, Crossroads Support Service and Howell Support Services.
The groom is the son of Floyd Thorton and the late Maragaret Uzzell of Goldsboro and the grandson of Christine McLaurin Carmichael and the late Calliebell Tyndall of Goldsboro and the late Dunk Mclaurin.
He is a 1980 graduate of Goldsboro High School. He is employed with Unlimited Maintenance.
The bride was escorted by her nephew, Jermaine Banks, and given in marriage by her mother and nephew.
She wore a formal gown of ivory satin with a halter neckline. The fitted bodice was enhanced with pearls and sequins with a lace-up corset closure. The A-line skirt had a split apron front that led to a semi-cathedral train.
Her headpiece was a silver diamond tiara accented with roses and pearl sequins.
Yolanda Salters was her cousin’s matron of honor, while Tenashia Uzzell, daughter of the couple, was maid of honor.
Jeneen Moore, niece of the groom, was the bridesmaid.
Travario Uzzell was his father’s best man.
Groomsmen and ushers were Theo Washington, brother of the bride, and Tyquan Williams and Jamaal Artis, nephews of the bride.
Lakia Moore, Mercedes Atkinson and Enezia Hall, nieces of the bride, were flower girls. Kam’Ron Artis, great-nephew of the bride, was ringbearer.
Rogdrae Brown, godson of the couple, was Biblebearer. Larky Moore, nephew of groom, was bellbearer.
The Rev. Denise Reid, aunt of the bride, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Sharon Atkinson, Sopphira Washington, Tonya Peacock and Antoinette Brown, sisters of the bride, and Tonya Strong, niece of the bride. Destiny Atkinson, Aleshia Atkinson, Epiphany Moore, Lateria Goodings, Donishia Peacock and Jessica Peacock, nieces of the couple, and Iriana Brown, goddaughter, distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Greg Montgomrey, pianist, and Dinah Tootle, sister of the groom, and Natosha Wheatley, niece of the groom, vocalists.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the Grey Room at Herman Park Center. Mary Richarson cut the wedding cake.
The couple will take a wedding trip at a later date. They reside in Pikeville.
Events held before the wedding included a makeup shower July 5 hosted by Paula Artis; a shower May 27 hosted by Bercky Aycock, Tricia Artis and Brenda Boswell; a passion shower hosted by Antoinette Brown, friend of the bride; and a private bridal shower hosted by Sharon Atkinson, Paula Artis, Antoinette Brown, Barbara Staton, Yolanda Salters, Tonya Strong and Sopphira Washington.
The couple’s children and godchildren held a rehearsal dinner July 6.
