Phillips - Kornegay
Mary Beth Kornegay of Goldsboro and Mitchell Anthony Phillips exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony May 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, with Neal Wingfield officiating.
The bride is the daughter of James and Susan Wallace of Pikeville and the granddaughter of Evelyn Bracewell and the late Ray Bracewell of Thomasville, Ga.
She is a 2000 graduate of Southern Wayne High School and a 2006 graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and journalism.
The groom is the son of Tony and Vicki Phillips of Goldsboro and the grandson of Ed and Faye Phillips and Ted and Alice Tillman of Goldsboro.
He is a 2000 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and a 2006 graduate of Wayne Community College with an Associate in Arts degree. He attends the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for a degree in graphic design. He is employed as a web administrator at Commercial Business Systems.
The bride was escorted by her stepfather, James Wallace, and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a white strapless A-line gown with a corded lace overlay. Accenting the floral lace overlay were triplets pearls and sequins. The gown featured a chapel train with white satin ribbon tied in a bow at the waist finished with a pink crystal brooch.
Her headpiece was a single-layer white teardrop veil with a fresh water pearl and Swarovski crystal comb.
The bride carried a bouquet of white, light pink and hot pink peonies and Gerber daisies.
Emily Jenkins was her friend’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Katie Hess, friend of the bride, and Rebecca Phillips, sister of the groom.
Tony Phillips, father of the groom, and Kevin Decilles, friend of the groom, were best man.
Groomsmen were Nathan Overman and Matthew Overman, cousins of the groom.
Lynette Overman directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Samantha Overman. Julie Boughton distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Tommy Howell, pianist; Jill Howell, vocalist; and Tommy Howell, guitarist and vocalist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Salem Hall.
After a wedding trip to Orlando, Fla., the couple reside in Goldsboro.
Events held before the wedding included a Carolina Mudcats baseball game May 12; a bridal dinner May 10 at The Royal Tea Room hosted by Alice Tillman, Lynette Overman and Samantha Overman; a dinner party May 5 at Salem Hall hosted by Lynette Overman; a lingerie shower April 28 at the home of the bride’s parents hosted by Emily Jenkins; a bridal shower April 22 at the home of Michelle Gurley hosted by Ms. Gurley; a bridal shower April 15 at the home of Faye Phillips hosted by Ms. Phillips; a wedding shower March 11 at Salem United Methodist Church hosted by women of the church; a tea party March 3 at the home of Samantha Overman hosted by Ms. Overman and Lynette Overman; and an engagement party Dec. 16 at the home of Tony and Vicki Phillips hosted by the Phillipses.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner May 18 at Walnut Creek Country Club.
