Anderson - Rooney
WASHINGTON D.C. — Mary Elizabeth Rooney and Tony Anderson exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony April 28 at 5 p.m. at Fort Lesley J. McNair, with Father Joseph A. Sanches and the Rev. Terry Whittenton officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Kevin and Annette Rooney of McLean, Va., and the granddaughter of the late Davitt Rooney and Elizabeth Rooney Lefebvre of Palmer, Mass., and the late Fred and Antoinette Benevento of Arlington, Va.
She graduated from East Carolina University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education and in 2006 with a Masters of Art degree in education. She is employed as a fourth-grade teacher at Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia.
The groom is the son of Wayne and Kaye Anderson of Mount Olive and the grandson of Adolph and Nellie Anderson, Jarvis and Nell Hudson Odom and the late Dwight Hudson of Mount Olive.
He graduated from East Carolina University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice. He is employed as a program assistant at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington D.C.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a silk shantung strapless gown with a pleated bodice and bustled back skirt.
Her headpiece was a fingertip cascading veil.
The bride carried a bouquet of cascading green cypripedium orchids and pink roses with waxed white flowers and white ribbon.
Katie Sheehey of Arlington was her sister’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Lisa Davis of Columbia, sister of the groom; Olivia Bena of Raynham, Mass., cousin of the bride; and Emily Smith of Raleigh and Courtney Hunt of McLean, friends of the bride.
Wayne Anderson was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Lee Davis of Columbia, brother-in-law of the groom, and Clay Waddell, Kevin Holland, Ramsey Yehia of Greenville and Mandrille Tucker of Roxboro, friends of the groom.
Alex Sheehey, nephew of the bride, was ringbearer.
Presiding at the register was Crystal Miller of Warsaw, cousin of the groom. Diana and Laura Benevento of Fairfax, Va., cousins of the bride, distributed programs.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a dinner and dance reception at Fort McNair Officers’ Club.
After a wedding trip to Jamaica, the couple reside in McLean.
Events held before the wedding included a bachelor weekend April 13 and 14 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., hosted by friend of the groom; a bachelorette getaway April 14 in Atlantic City, N.J., hosted by friends of the bride; a bridal shower Feb. 24 at the home of the bride in McLean; a miscellaneous shower Feb. 18 at Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church hosted by family of the groom’s father; and a bridal shower Jan. 14 at the home of Crystal Miller of Warsaw hosted by family of the groom’s mother.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner April 27 at Tom Sarris’ Orleans House in Rosslyn, Va. The couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.
