Ward - Uzzell
WASHINGTON D.C. — Kahni J. Ward of Washington D.C. became the wife of Kenyatta L. Uzzell of Mitchellville, Md., Nov. 5 at 5:30 p.m.
Elder Merwyn K. Smith, cousin of the groom, officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Dunbarton Chapel at Howard University School of Law.
Parents of the bride are Lt. Gen. William “Kip” and Joyce Lewis Ward of Heidelberg, Germany. She is the granddaughter of the late Levi and Mamie McBeth of Freeman, Va., and Phyllis Cashen Ward and the late Isaiah Richard Ward of Baltimore, Md.
James P. and Melba S. Uzzell of Goldsboro are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of the late Earl Sr. and Mildred B. Smith and the late Pete and Dora K. Uzzell of Goldsboro.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a white strapless lace mermaid dress with a duchess belt.
For her headpiece, she chose a diamond white cathedral-length veil with a fingertip face layer and satin pencil cording. She carried a cluster of calla lilies accented with Monstera leaves.
Zoe M. Carter of New Castle, Del., cousin of the bride, was matron of honor. Standrea Williams of Pasadena, Calif., friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Gracia Walker of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Nana Atobrah Perry of Arlington, Va., sorority sisters of the bride; Kamala Uzzell of Durham, sister of the groom; and Melaney Johnson of Alexandria and Nicole Copeland of Washington D.C., friends of the bride.
Eric Croom of Upper Marlboro, Md., cousin of the groom, and Marc Love of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., fraternity brother of the groom, were best men. Groomsmen were Kenneth Evans of Bowie, Md., Ricardo Gardner of Charlotte and Dr. William Miguel Epps of Largo, Md., fraternity brothers of the groom, David Suggs Jr. of Durham, cousin of the groom; and K.J. Ward of Boston, Mass., brother of the bride.
Madison Richardson of Pasadena and Kayla Knox of New Castle were flower girls. Bradley Via of Manheim, Germany, was ring bearer.
A program of wedding music was provided by the Frederick String Quartet and Willie Jolley and Terrence Tarver, vocalists.
After a wedding trip to Hawaii, the couple is residing in Washington D.C.
The bride is a graduate of James Madison University of Virginia and a 2004 graduate of Howard University School of Business with an MBA. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She is employed as chief of staff with the DC office of contracting and procurement.
The groom graduated from Eastern Wayne High School in 1989, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1993 with an undergraduate degree and Howard University School of Business in 1996 with an MBA. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. He is employed as an executive recruitment manager with the government of the District of Columbia.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a dinner and dance reception at Four Seasons Hotel of Georgetown in Washington D.C.
On Nov. 5, a bridal tea was held at Four Seasons of Georgetown.
Kate Ware and Barbara White, aunts of the bride, held a bridal shower Oct. 22 at the Ware home.
On Oct. 9, Kamala Uzzell, sister of the groom; Shirley Suggs, aunt of the groom; and Henrietta Best, cousin of the groom; held a wedding shower at the home of the groom’s parents.
Friends of the bride held a girls’ weekend Oct. 1 in Miami, Fla.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at Zola Restaurant of the International Spy Museum in Washington D.C. The couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.
