Smith - Sheffield
LaShena Demelle Sheffield of Raleigh and Herman Jerel Smith of Stone Mountain, Ga., pledged their vows Saturday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m.
Pastor Rodger Taylor officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
Parents of the bride are Horace Thompson of Goldsboro and Valoria Vinson of Raleigh. She is the stepdaughter of Patricia Thompson and the late Paul Vinson Jr. She is the granddaughter of Mary Sheffield and Neil and Dessie Loftin of Goldsboro and Norwood Whittaker of Stone Mountain, Ga.
The groom is the son of Brenda Smith of Goldsboro and the late Herman Smith. He is the grandson of the late Doris Middleton, the late Squire Smith and Katie Mae Smith.
Given in marriage and escorted by her uncle, Marshall Sheffield, the bride wore a formal gown of white satin with a strapless neckline. The fitted bodice was embroidered and adorned with bugle beads cascading down the front and back. The back bodice was accented with satin-covered bridal buttons and flowed in the a chapel train.
For her headpiece, she chose a veil of silk illusion attached to a tiara accented with rhinestones. She carried a bouquet of calla lilies, blue hydrangeas and cascading ivy.
Tiffany Cole and Delisa Osler, godsisters of the bride, were matrons of honor. Angela Sheffield, aunt of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were India Greene and Greta King, friends of the bride; Paulesha Sheffield, sister of the bride; and Alesia Thomas, sister of the groom.
Cleveland McKeithan was his friend’s best man. Ushers were Levi Hamilton and Roderick Ayers, friends of the groom. Groomsmen were Kevin Raiford, Timothy Taylor and Maurice Holloway, friends of the groom, and Robert Thomas, brother-in-law of the groom.
Shecora Sheffield, cousin of the bride, was the junior bridesmaid. Faronte Vinson, nephew of the couple, was the junior groomsman.
Tabrion Green, goddaughter of the couple, was flower girl. Qualik Vinson, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.
Dakim Vinson, nephew of the couple, was bell ringer and broom carrier.
Linda Barfield of Durham, godmother of the bride, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Mavis Brown of Durham. Shan Newman and Christina Newman, nieces of the couple, distributed programs.
Special helpers were Teda Bryant and Alexis Carr, cousins of the bride, and Artese´ Sheffield, sister of the bride.
A program of wedding music was provided by Percy Royal, vocalist, and Dr. Jerry Smith.
After a wedding trip to Cancun, Mexico, the couple is residing in Stone Mountain.
The bride is a 1989 graduate of Goldsboro High School, a 1995 graduate of Bennett College with a bachelor of science degree in computer science and a 2003 graduate of North Carolina Central University with a master’s degree in computer science. She is employed as a software engineer at IBM.
The groom graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1987 and Barber Scotia College of Concord in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing. He is employed as a transportation professional with Special Touch Transportation Inc. of Atlanta.
Following the ceremony, the couple held a reception at Lane Tree Golf and Country Club.
On Sept. 2, the couple held a rehearsal dinner at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church fellowship hall. They couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.
Arletta Taylor and members of Philadelphia Community Church held a bridal shower Aug. 31.
On July 30, Tiffany Cole and Delisa Osler, friends of the bride, held a bridal shower in Durham.
