Royal - Johnson
Carla Denice Johnson and Marvin David Royal were united in marriage Aug. 6 at 2 p.m.
District Elder Terrell Powell officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Holly Grove Church of Christ Disciples of Christ.
Parents of the bride are the late Correll Johnson, Sophia R. Baker of Georgia and Carland Baker of Mississippi. She is the granddaughter of the late Ossie L. Stiggers of Georgia, Hattie Baker and the late Dennis Baker of Dudley.
Carolyn Royal of Faison is the mother of the groom. He is the grandson of Lillie Stevens and the late Matthew J. Stevens of Faison.
Given in marriage by her mother and uncle and escorted by her uncle, D.J. Stiggers, the bride wore a formal strapless gown of ivory satin. The fitted mock tulle gown was adorned with a beaded Schiffli lace overlay with scalloped embroidered floral motifs embellished with crystals, iridescents and pearl accents, an embroidery scalloped hem and a sweep train with buttons down the back.
For her headpiece, she chose a tiara with rhinestones enhanced with an elbow-length ivory-sequined veil. She carried a bouquet of calla lilies and yellow roses.
Mechelle Ward-Barksdale, friend of the bride, was matron of honor. Renaye Johnson, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Gabriela Baker, sister-in-law of the bride, and Malissa Aycock and Anger Owens, cousins of the groom.
Darrell Barksdale was his cousin’s best man. Groomsmen were Michael Baker, brother of the bride; Michael Faison, cousin of the groom; and Dennis Ward, friend of the groom.
Belinda A. Ward, friend of the couple, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Belinda L. Ward, friend of the bride.
A program of wedding music was provided by Kelvin Alston, vocalist, and Jimmy Aycock, organist.
After a wedding trip to Surfside Beach, S.C., the couple is residing in Wayne County.
The bride is a 1987 graduate of Goldsboro High School and a 1992 graduate of Elizabeth City State University with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and a minor in sociology. She is employed with the Wayne County Public Schools.
The groom graduated from North Duplin High School in 1990 and Hardbarger Junior College of Business in 1992 with an associate degree of applied science in business administration. He is employed with Johnston County Public Schools.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Lake Artesia of Clinton. Belinda L. Ward was hostess.
On Aug. 5, the groom’s family held a rehearsal dinner at Holly Grove Church.
A bachelor party was held Aug. 4 in Cary.
Co-workers of the bride and Monique Reeves held a bridal shower Aug. 2.
On July 30, the bride’s family and friends held a bridal shower at the home of the bride.
A bachelorette party was held July 30 in Warsaw.
