Yvette Charisse Smith and Andre Steven Richardson were united in marriage Saturday, June 25, at noon.

The Rev. Anthony J. Davis, brother-in-law of the bride, officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Best Grove Missionary Church.

Parents of the bride are Chester and Carolyn Smith of Goldsboro. She is the granddaughter of Lula Smith of Fremont and the late Wilbert M. Reid and Fannie Lewis Reid of Pikeville.

Parents of the groom are Oliver and Mary Elizabeth Richardson of Henderson. He is the grandson of Brooksie Henderson and Mary Ball of Henderson.

Presented in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a white gown of satin and tulle enhanced with a Queen Elizabeth neckline. The fitted bodice of Alencon lace and roses was accented with clusters of seed pearls. The back featured a gala of satin ribbons and a flow of ribbon embedded down the train. The dropped waistline led to a flowing flounce skirt with a beaded edge of roses that swept to a chapel train.

For her headpiece, she chose a white double-tiered elbow-length veil trimmed in satin that adorned the bottom of the veil. She carried a silver-handled bouquet of white calla lilies, stephanotis, roses, dendrobium orchids and leptosperum cascading with ribbons.

Jacqueline Smith Davis of Whitsett, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Alicia Bullock of Asheboro and Yvette Stewart of Durham, sorority sisters of the bride; Theresa Cox of Goldsboro and Marsha King of Warner Robins, Ga., friends of the bride; and Yolonda Newsome of Winterville, cousin of the bride.

Anthony Joines of Durham and Eric Watkins of Henderson were best men. Groomsmen were Adrian Harewood of Brooklyn, N.Y., Arnold Jiggetts of Atlanta, Ga., Otis Patterson of Columbus, Ohio and James Williams of Raleigh, fraternity brothers of the groom. Ushers were Anthony Cawley and Stanley Sellers III of Raleigh, Rashaan Meador of Chicago, Ill., and Jermaine Simmons of Charlotte, fraternity brothers of the groom.

Hostesses were Regina Lewis and Katrina Lewis Teachey of Durham, cousins of the bride; Ashley Thompson-Moran of Raleigh, friend of the bride; and Isabelle Reid of Goldsboro, aunt of the bride.

Montrell Anthony Davis, nephew of the bride, was the junior usher and escort of the bride’s mother.

Maya Ashley Nicole Davis, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Tyquan Davis Reid, cousin of the bride, was ring bearer.

Thelma Smith directed the wedding.

A program of wedding music was provided by Dr. Benjamin Johnson, organist; Jevonda Greer, violinist; and Michelle Hobbs and the Rev. Jerry Dortch, vocalists.

After a wedding trip to Miami Beach, Fla., the couple will reside in Durham.

The bride is a 1989 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School, a 1993 graduate of North Carolina Central University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a 2002 graduate of North Carolina Central University with a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and a 2003 graduate of Campbell University with a master’s degree in school administration. She is a member of Delta Sigma Thelta Sorority Inc. She is employed as a principal with the Durham Public School System.

The groom graduated from Vance Senior High School in 1988, Shaw University in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in English, North Carolina Central University in 2000 with a master’s degree in English and North Carolina State University in 2005 with a master of arts degree in adult education. He attends North Carolina State University for a Ph.D. in higher educational administration. He served in the Navy. He is a member of Beta Rho Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. He is employed as director of veteran’s affairs at Durham Technical Community College.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a dinner and dance reception at Goldsboro Country Club. Francis Smith of Fremont, aunt of the bride, cut the wedding cake.

On June 24, the bride’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at Best Grove Church fellowship hall. The couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.

Jaqueline Smith Davis, Marsha King and Toya Knight held a bridesmaids’ and hostess shower June 18 in Chapel Hill.

On June 18, Eric Watkins held a bachelor cookout in Henderson.

Anthony Joines held a bachelor weekend May 31 in Washington D.C.

On May 26, faculty and staff of Oak Grove Elementary School held a bridal shower at the school.
