Player - Williams
Jennifer Leerene Williams and Jon Stephen Player were united in marriage June 11 at 6 p.m.
The Rev. Craig Holladay officiated at the double-ring ceremony at St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Parents of the bride are Shirley Lane Williams and Terry Albertus Williams of Goldsboro. She is the granddaughter of Leerene Lane, the late John Henry Lane, Lois Westbrook Williams and the late Robert Edward Williams of Goldsboro.
V. Stephen and Marian King Player of Raleigh are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of Virginia McCallum King and the late James Brown King of Asheboro and Elsie Spiteri Player and the late Vinroe Theron Player of Sumter, S.C.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory silk dupioni with an A-line skirt with an asymmetrical rouching on the bodice and a chapel-length train. It had a flower on it.
For her headpiece, she chose an ivory cathedral-length veil. She carried a clutch bouquet of pink and cream ranunculus accented with bridal blush roses, miniature callas and garden greenery.
Heather Williams Coley of Calabash, sister, was matron of honor. Carey Elizabeth Day of Atlanta, Ga., friend, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Kathryn Suzanne Johnson and Meredith Anne Holcomb of Chapel Hill, Cameron Elizabeth Smith of Raleigh, Veronica Williams Ganoe of Myrtle Beach, S.C., sister, Jessica Lea Chelette of Charlotte and Mary Fletcher Pena of Maastricht, Netherlands.
V. Stephen Player was his son’s best man. Ushers were Charles Albert Thomas III of Goldsboro, Jeffrey Douglas Stauffer of Charlotte and Troy Harding Hutchins of Raleigh. Groomsmen were Gray Michael Player of Chapel Hill, brother of the groom, Matthew Robert Martin of Raleigh, Andrew Alcorn Crow of Bozeman, Mont., Thomas Long Oakley and William McGregor Bell of Chapel Hill, Matthew Linden Jamison of Atlanta and Michael Steven Bush of Portland, Ore.
Teagan Alyse Coley, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Victor Mark Samia, friend of the groom, was ring bearer.
Sheila S. Warrick directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Jennifer Lauren Price. Lisa McAllister Hoffman and Caron Margaret Pizarro distributed programs.
Suzanne Shoaf Ward of Raleigh and Gretchen Anne Lohmer of St. Louis Park, Minn., were Scripture readers.
A program of wedding music was provided by Steele Sasser, organist; Alyson Bobbitt and Terry and Jay Kornegay, vocalists; Kellie Brown and Byron Watkins, violinists; and Joey Tucker, trumpeter.
After a wedding trip to Ambergris Caye, Belize, the couple will reside in Richmond, Va.
The bride is a 1997 graduate of Southern Wayne High School and a 2001 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of arts degree in communications. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She is employed as the assistant regional director for Virginia AIM Healthcare Inc.
The groom graduated from Jessie O. Sanderson High School of Raleigh in 1995 and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999 with a bachelor of science degree in biology and in 2004 with a masters of science degree in public health. He attends the University of Richmond’s law school.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Walnut Creek Country Club.
On June 10, Sarah and Faye Lane held a bridesmaids’ luncheon at the home of Sarah Lane.
The bride held a martini and more night June 9 at the home of Faye Lane.
On March 27, the groom’s family held a kitchen shower in Clemson, S.C.
The bride’s family held a room-to-room shower March 5 in Goldsboro.
On Nov. 5, friends of the couple held a stock-the-bar party at La Residence of Chapel Hill.
The couple’s parents held an engagement party Sept. 11 at the home of the groom’s parents.
Liz Day held a bachelorette weekend in Atlanta.
Friends of the groom held a bachelor party in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
An after-party was held at Billie’s Restaurant.
