MOUNT OLIVE — Gwendolyn Nicole McPahil and Miguel Guillermo de Varona were married March 5 at 2 p.m.
Bishop Joseph Scott officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Mount Olive First Baptist Church.
Parents of the bride are Dan and Gwen McPhail of Mount Olive. She is the granddaughter of Billy and Ethel McPhail of Mount Olive and the late Hugo and Janie Carson of Rocky Mount.
The groom is the son of Jose G. and Tammy de Varona of Pikeville. He is the grandson of Barbara Hardy and the late Jesse Earl Hardy of Pikeville and Jose M. and Angela de Varona of Sneads Ferry.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father.
Leisha M. Best, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Carey Ginn, friend of the couple, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Natalia de Varona and Dominique de Varona, sisters of the groom.
Jose G. de Varona was his son’s best man. Ushers were Ryan McPahil, Jared McPhail and Jordan McPhail, brothers of the bride, and Cliff Best, brother-in-law of the bride. Groomsmen were Jason Corbett and Stephen Terry, friends of the groom, and Eric Thompson, cousin of the groom.
Mary Beth Hardy, cousin of the groom, was flower girl. Tristan and Baily Best, nephews, were ring bearers.
Bobby Jean and Shannon Wiggins directed the wedging. Presiding at the register was Cindy M. McPahil.
A program of wedding music was provided by Janet rose, pianist, and Tyron Corbett, vocalist.
After a wedding trip to Topsail Island, the couple is residing in Goldsboro.
The bride is a 1999 graduate of Southern Wayne High School. She attends Wayne Community College. She is employed as a front house manager with Boondoggle’s.
The groom graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School in 1997 and Wayne Community College in 2000 with an associate’s degree in science. He attends North Carolina State University for a degree in civil engineering. He is employed with Varona Construction Co.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church.
The groom’s family held a rehearsal dinner March 4 at the Steak Barn.
On Feb. 22, a bridal shower was held at the home of Bobby Jean Wiggins.
Janet Rose held a bridal luncheon Feb. 19 at A Place In Time of Clinton.
On Feb. 13, a lingerie shower was held at the home of Cindy McPhail.
