Allen - Godwin
AYDEN — Virginia Lee Godwin and Jonathan Wayne Allen of Clayton exchanged promises Dec. 5 at 3 p.m.
The Rev. Dennis Patrick Levin officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Ayden United Methodist Church.
Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harvey Godwin of Ayden. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lee Manly Nance and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Henry Godwin of Ayden.
Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Richard David Lawhorn of Goldsboro and Larry Wayne Allen of Ayden. He is the grandson of Elcana Hershel Allen and the late Rachel Jones Allen of Pikeville and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Graham Faucette of Goldsboro.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a satin gown with an organza overlay with an embroidered and hand-beaded cathedral train.
She carried a bouquet of white roses and baby’s breath.
Emily Mercer Norris of Greenville was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Stefanie Huffman Adams of Goldsboro, cousin of the groom, Rebecca Suzanne Lee and Marjolein Denise Wilson of Greenville and Melanie Easter Wright of Winterville.
Stephen Eugene Kearney of Raleigh was his cousin’s best man. Groomsmen were Jacob Wayne Allen and Justin Wayne Allen of Goldsboro, brothers of the groom, Richard David Lawhorn of Goldsboro and Robert Jason Walls of Buies Creek.
MacKenzie Brooke Jenkins of Clayton was flower girl. Michael Christopher Sugg of Winterville was ring bearer.
Donna Denton Harris directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Karen Leigh Minor. Kimberly Joyce Bertles distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Jonathan Michael Sitton, pianist and vocalist; Andrea Harris Norris, organist; Jennifer Harris Rogers, vocalist; Amy Levin Jones, flutist; and Kenneth Jones, guitarist.
After a wedding cruise to Grand Cayman and Jamaica, the couple is residing in Smithfield.
The bride is a graduate of Ayden-Grifton High School and East Carolina University. She is employed by Lenoir County Schools as a teacher at LaGrange Elementary School.
The groom graduated from Rosewood High School and East Carolina University. He is employed by the town of Clayton as athletic director with the Parks and Recreation Department.
Following the ceremony, a reception and dance were held at Ayden Golf and Country Club.
On Dec. 4, Emily Mercer Norris held a bridesmaids’ luncheon at CPWs of Greenville.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner Dec. 4 at Bum’s Restaurant of Ayden.
